how to make your own chile powder from dried chiles

Make your own chili powder

  • Author: Jess Pryles

Ingredients

Scale

Approx 1 oz of dried chiles

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 250f.
  2. Remove and discard stems and seeds of chiles.
  3. Place chiles on a baking tray/sheet pan and bake for 10-15 minutes to dry them out further. They should be more brittle and less pliable.
  4. Remove from oven and cool. Working in batches if necessary, place extra-dried chiles into a grinder and pulse to a fine powder.
  5. Store in an airtight container and use as needed.
