Smoked spiced & salted whiskey cocktail

For the simple syrup:

1 c sugar

1 c hot water

1 stick cinnamon

6 cloves

For the cocktail assembly:

2 oz whiskey or bourbon

4 teaspoons simple syrup

23 dashes Black Walnut bitters

TINY pinch of fleur de sel or flake salt


  1. Start by making the simple syrup. Preheat a smoker to 200f. In a bowl, combine sugar and hot water and whisk until sugar dissolved. Add cinnamon and clove, then pour into a shallow baking dish and place into the smoker for two hours. Remove then cool, and store syrup in a jar.
  2. To assemble the cocktail, pour whiskey, smoked simple syrup and bitters into a cocktail shaker, and stir quickly to combine. Pour into an Old Fashioned glass over a large ice cube, then finish with salt sprinkle.
